ASC - Aquaculture Stewardship Council

About the ASC

ASC is the acronym for Aquaculture Stewardship Council, an independent not for profit organisation. The ASC was founded in 2009 by WWF and IDH (Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative) to manage the global standards for responsible aquaculture. The first ASC standards, for Tilapia and Pangasius, are now operational and the other standards are in various stages of development by ASC and the Aquaculture Dialogues, a programme of roundtables initiated and coordinated by WWF.

The ASC will be the world's leading certification and labelling programme for responsibly farmed seafood. The ASC will be a global organisation working with aquaculture producers, seafood processors, retail and foodservice companies, scientists, conservation groups and the public to promote the best environmental and social choice in seafood.

ASC COC certification by Ecocert IMOswiss AG

Every step in the supply chain of ASC products, from the farm to the consumer, must be certified according to the ASC COC standard: It ensures that an ASC labeled product consists of ASC Farm certified aquatic products and is part of an audited supply chain which is fully traceable. The ASC COC standard ist based on the MSC COC standard.

From 2012 onwards Ecocert IMOswiss AG offers combined audits according to both ASC COC and MSC COC, as well as other standards such as organic, AquaGAP, etc.
